What

The Greater Uwharrie Conservation Partnership (GUCP) is hosting a 2-day workshop to explore the benefits of shortleaf pine.  The Uwharries region of NC is a place where shortleaf is still hanging on and there is a lot of opportunity for restoration. Topics that will be covered include the status of shortleaf pine today, ecology of the shortleaf pine ecosystem, artificial and natural regeneration of shortleaf pine, economics and yield, cost-share opportunities to help landowners plant shortleaf pine, and an introduction to the rangewide conservation plan currently being developed by the Shortleaf Pine Initiative. SPI Director Mike Black will be there with Southern Regional Extension Forestry"s Holly Campbell, who has been instrumental in designing and writing content for the forthcoming Shortleaf Pine website update.
